Doesn't it make you so angry when you get people who steal other peoples work and pass it off as their own?
Recently, a fellow artist and friend from another art site I go to came across a new member in DA who had stolen one of his works and passed it off as her own. I also found the work of another artist friend in their gallery and some of the stolen things were even offered as prints!!!!! This member tried to make out their account had been hacked....pull the other one...!!! None of us at artpapa believed that for a moment.
A while back, another artist friend from the same site and a load of others all had their art stolen by a DA member who passed it all off as her own...she was banned!!!

I've also found an image being used by a very member who left a snidey comment on my kicking up dust painting which was totally legit...implying I used the ref without permission. This member had stolen another DA members photo and used it in a horseland manip so I told the real photographer on her. Obviously, the real owner was quite upset at having her piece stolen as I knew she would be. What a hypocrit the original member was?

I don't know, some people feel such a need to get attention in whatever way they can, they really must be deprived in the real world.

Even more annoying are those who challenge you back when you point out you know they stole an image they put up. They don't realise the numerous ways in which you can catch them out. The internet is a big place and you never know who might see the images you post and where they might have seen that image before...
I've seen loads of young members join up and just post other peoples stuff on their accounts. Don't they read the terms of service??? Obviously not.

Some people think I am a trouble causer for trying to stop these copyright infringements, generally those who I report...maybe they'd think differently if it was their own work being stolen and I informed them about it....
I know all the real victims I informed were very thankful to me for it.

I'd like to know what you lot think about this subject.

All unite against the thiefsters!!!

People tend to just sue for damages instead.

Maybe we should be talking commission.
After all, if they can sell it?

I agree with you whole heartedly!! The internet is unfortunately a breeding ground for those who think they can get a name for themselves by stealing other peoples work! I applaud you for sticking it to them and having the guts to confront them about it!!! DA needs a few more people like you :) I felt a little nervous about putting my images online for this very reason, which is why I only offer a small size, so that they cannot be stolen and offered as prints, not of a decent size anyway. I will sleep better knowing that there are people like you out there that not only appreciate other's work and acknowledge it's use but also are willing to protect the rights of fellow artists!! :star::star::star::star::star:'s for you!!!!!!!!!

Oh, I know, it's disgusting...glad I'm not the only angry one! Someone got all upset with me for reporting one of "his" photos that was straight off google images. It was so obvious (and sad).

Thievery of any sort makes me so angry. I'm just glad none of my stuff is high-quality enough to attract dA robbers. Glad you're raising awareness and setting the records straight!

If I see someone has ripped or stolen artwork, they get reported. I've caught some people stealing my stuff or blatantly copying it. Copying to learn is fine, but claiming it's your own work is not.

It's ridiculous but the Internet makes it easy for people to do it. How unfortunate that someone's art is treated as a simple .jpg that can be replicated anywhere. :(

I do agree that all artists and photographers should look out for each other, even for those they don't know personally but just have seen the works of.

I see loads of pro photos that I recognize from Calendars taken by the likes of Jim Brandenburg, Art Wolfe etc...and kids are posting them and saying THEY took them.

Some of the young kids just don't seem to realise how serious it is. They take serious offence to having it simply pointed out to them. Better than being found out and sued by the real artist/photographer.

I can't understand why somebody would want to steal somebody elses stuff either. In the end, you know the subject isn't yours or you know you didn't really produce it etc....
No amount of great comments from other people would make me feel proud about something that wasn't even mine really.

I feel it's our duty to report art thievery to the copyright owner whenever we see it. They may choose to do something about it or not - it may not be worth the fight if nobody's making money off it - but it still makes me mad either way.

There's no accounting for some people. I really don't understand why anyone would want to steal someone else's art. *sigh*
