'Attentive' Portrait of Wren by Canis-Lupess 'Attentive' Portrait of Wren by Canis-Lupess
Just finished this one. It's a portrait of my Wrenster, lol:D I always loved the ref photo for this and knew I'd paint it some day. She looks so sweet and endearing in it and I loved the light.
The backdrop was done with brushwork and airbrush using acrylic. Wren was done in my usual mixed media but mostly acrylic.

This is in my favourites... but I keep coming back to it because it's so fantastic! Lovely painting... reminds me of hazy summer afternoons in my village, and the smell of the farms and the glare of the low sun...

The ref photo was taken in winter and the light was great...the sun kept poking through foggy cloud and it was quite hazy.

Oh right, it looks so warm - but I can see how the low winter sun might have given this effect.. either way, as you say, the lighting's great - especially on the fur towards the top, and the eyes.

How much do you charge and for what sizes of portraits?
Reply
:iconcanis-lupess:
Canis-Lupess Featured By Owner Oct 11, 2010
Sizes are iso sizes but I can do any size really. Price varies depending on the content of the portrait too. Full bodies and more detailed backgrounds will cost more than a standard head portrait on a plain backdrop for example.

The starting prices for standard portraits are:

A5 = 70
A4 = 120
A3 = 170
A2 = 220

If you dont mind my asking, how long did this stunner take to do?

In hours, I have no idea. I worked on it on and off for just under a month...working on it straight, I couldn't say how long it'd take.

Yes, I recognized your photos, lol:D As for your question...it's not a question you can just easily answer. A rigger paint brush was used for most fine detail.
